635 Books Collected for Children in Uganda!

During the month of September, Zula Kids joined hands with Voorschoten and Wassenaar Libraries to celebrate Language Month with a special purpose — to connect children across continents through the gift of books.

Our goal was to collect English books for children and youth at Temple Talents Centre in Soroti, Uganda, where access to reading materials remains a challenge for many. Through this initiative, we aimed to promote literacy, cultural exchange, and a shared love for stories that inspire learning and imagination.

Families, children, and teachers from Voorschoten and Wassenaar responded with open hearts, gathering books from their homes, schools, and networks. By the end of the 30-day campaign, an incredible 635 English books had been collected!

On Wednesday, 1st October, a beautiful handover ceremony was held at Voorschoten Library. The Library’s Managing Director, Esther Habers, and Language House Project Leader, Frank Groenman, officially handed over the books to Zula Kids. During the event, Alula (12) and Zuilu (14) gave heartfelt presentations about the campaign and shared what inspired them to support children in Uganda. There was also a live Zoom session with the children at Temple Talents Centre in Soroti — a joyful exchange that brought smiles, laughter, and connection between the two groups.

We are now preparing the books for shipment to Uganda, where they will find a new home at Temple Talents Centre. Once delivered, they will become part of the Centre’s community and mobile library programs, giving hundreds of children the chance to explore, learn, and dream.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible, particularly Voorschoten and Wassenaar Libraries, the parents, children, and community members who contributed.

Your kindness will have a lasting impact far beyond the pages of the books.
